UKRAINE RIB MANUFACTURERS IMPACTED BY RUSSIAN INVASION

Ukraine based, BRIG is one of the biggest manufacturers of rigid-hulled inflatables in the world and has been severely impacted with the Russian invasion.

The northeastern region of Ukraine surrounding the city of Kharkiv was one of the areas that felt the immediate effects of Russian invasion. It is home to BRIG, which claims to be the world’s largest manufacturer of RIBs, as well as two other companies in the same industry sector — Grand and Gala.

Ukrainian RIB builder, BRIG is the largest of the three with four different series of boats. Grand makes smaller single-outboard models while Gala offers pleasure and commercial vessels in a range of sizes.

Peter Carlson NZ distributor for Brig, says that the closure of the factory will certainly have an impact on supply, although for how long, no one knows at this stage. He says that since 2009 he has sold hundreds of Brigs from across the range.

“The larger 6m-8m centre consoles have been particularly popular and currently we have a number on order, but now we don’t know when or if they will arrive”. He said they have only a few models still available from their East Tamaki yard, Family Boats.
